Networked Energy Services Received Smart Metering Project Extension from LINZ NETZ GmbH
San Jose, CA, May12, 2022: Networked Energy Services Corporation (NES), a global smart grid solution provider with the industry’s leading Energy Applications Platform (EAPTM), announced today that LINZ NETZ GmbH (LN) has exercised its option to obtain an additional 30,000 smart meters and supporting communications infrastructure and software from NES.
LN has a successful history of utilizing the NES System to provide reliable smart meters to its consumers and achieving high communications SLAs using the Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP) standard for power line communications (PLC). This allows LN to automatically and securely gather metering information, update meter configuration and firmware, and monitor power quality parameters with confidence via PLC.
Several years ago, LN selected NES for its AMI smart metering extension project to deploy NES’ security solution which includes end-to-end encryption, role-based access controls, signed firmware and software and extended audit and logging. It also included firmware separation, which stream-lines the certification process, providing greater flexibility and future-proofing to meet new security requirements on existing infrastructure.
LN has decided to further expand its project with an additional 30,000 smart meters. Since the NES solution offers backwards compatibility, all generations of NES smart meters deployed for LN can be managed through the same monitoring and management solution.
NES is delivering this solution in conjunction with Kontron Technologies GmbH, a long-established member of the Austrian energy market, an experienced value-added reseller of NES technology and an existing supplier to LN. Kontron Technologies GmbH is responsible for the deployment of the NES solution and for implementing back-end security solutions.
“LN is very pleased to continue working with NES on our smart metering project” said Jörg Mittendorfer, LN CEO. “We recognize NES as being a key technology collaborator in our smart energy ecosystem and as helping us achieve a position of market leadership in Austria. Over the years, we have been impressed with the NES technology, which has proven to be the most robust and reliable power line technology.”
“LN’s decision to further expand its NES System deployment is the best endorsement we could ask for” says David Thomson, NES CEO. “Their decision demonstrates our commitment to supporting our customers with an industry-leading reliable and secure solution. This also underlines the value of the NES System and the project management, technical support, and operations skills of our partner, Kontron Technologies."
