Networked Energy Services Received Official METAS Data Security Certification
San Jose, CA, September 19, 2022: Networked Energy Services Corporation (NES), a global smart grid solution provider with the industry’s leading Energy Applications Platform (EAPTM), is excited to announce the official final data security certification according to article 8b of the Swiss StromVV (Electricity Supply Ordinance) for the NES AMI and Smart Grid platform and all of its Smart Grid components including residential electricity smart meters, Data Concentrators, and the Head-End System Software.
NES received its preliminary METAS certification approval earlier this year. With this important step of obtaining the official certification, it confirms that NES provides a comprehensive end-to-end Smart Grid solution that not only satisfies current data security requirements but can also dynamically react to potential cyber security threats in the future.
As Switzerland is known for its very methodical and stringent security requirements for energy grid systems and their components, the end-to-end certification of the NES Smart Grid System, which covers Smart Meters, Data Concentrators, and the Head-End System, as well as the communication between these components, ensures the AMI and Smart Grid platform is protected against today’s threats and prepared for future scenarios.
The certificates have been issued by the Federal Institute
of Metrology (METAS) and are published on its official certification server.
They can be retrieved using these certification numbers:
- CH-DS-21041-01 – MTR3500, MTR3000 (Residential Smart
Meters)
- CH-DS-22039-00 – NES System Software (Head-End
System)
- CH-DS-22040-00 – DCN 3000 (Data Concentrator)
By issuing the certificates for each of the components in the NES AMI and Smart Grid platform, METAS formally recognizes and confirms the implementation of the mandated requirements for the NES System. NES and VIVAVIS have more than 10 different existing DSO customers in Switzerland. This certification will ensure for existing and future utilities, who operate the NES Smart Grid Solution, that their NES components meet the strict data security standards and requirements for secure operation of an AMI system, as defined by local law in Switzerland.
“In an ever-changing world with growing threats to the
energy grids, NES is proud to deliver a Smart Metering System which implements
an end-to-end certified security solution,” said Mike Weiss, NES Chief Sales
Officer. “The recognition and certification of the NES System and its components
emphasizes our mission to do everything possible to be a reliable partner for
our customers and provide the most secure state-of-the-art products.”
